Company or Partnership

The request was refused by Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Dear Solicitors Regulation Authority,

Company or Partnership

Can solicitors sign as a company or trading name on documents or emails.

If solicitors are a partners of a firm of solicitors do they have to sign their name.

Can a solicitor act in court through both a firm and company or does it have be the partnership firm listed on the law society.

Is there any penalties attached for signing incorrectly and does this breach SRA Code of Conduct.

Yours faithfully,

Mr Frankham

Dear Mr Frankham,

Thank you for your email.

The SRA is not subject to Freedom of Information Act as it is not a designated authority under the act. We have adopted our own Transparency Code which operates in a similar way:

https://www.sra.org.uk/sra/how-we-work/t...

We expect solicitors to act in line with our Standards and Regulations:

https://www.sra.org.uk/solicitors/standa...

We cannot provide any individual interpretation of these Standards and Regulations under our Transparency Code, if you have concerns about a solicitor you can report these to us via our website:

Yours sincerely,

Dear SRA Information Compliance,

Unfortunately the SRA code is far from transparent and virtually impossible for anyone to know whether or not a solicitor can sign as a company or trading name on documents or emails, if the SRA cannot state what the truth is and claim not to be able to interpretate their own standards and regulations under their so-called 'transparency code' what chance has anyone of knowing what solicitors can and cannot do?

What is the SRA definition of transparent services provided by solicitors?

Yours faithfully,,

Mr Frankham

Dear Mr Frankham,

Thank you for your email.

Our standards and regulations set out the information authorised firms, and individuals providing services to the public from outside authorised firms, should make available to clients and potential clients:

https://www.sra.org.uk/solicitors/standa...

Our rules do not determine the specific situations in which a solicitor is required is required to sign their name. You may wish to seek advice on this. The Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to assist:

If you have concerns with the way a solicitor or law firm has acted, you should report this to our assessment team:
