DWP policy; appointee & mobility car lease

The request was successful.

Peter O'Sullivan

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
MY REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FROM THE DWP IS: PLEASE WILL YOU TELL ME IF IT IS DWP POLICY THAT APPOINTEES TAKE ON RESPONSIBILITY (& SIGN) THE LEASE OF A CAR LEASED BY THE DISABLED PERSON (FOR WHOM THE APPOINTEE IS THE DESIGNATED APPOINTEE) FROM MOTABILITY OPERATIONS.
AND IF YOUR ANSWER IS 'YES' PLEASE WILL YOU, THE DWP POINT ME TOWARDS (OR SEND ME ) THE POLICY DOCUMENT / URL STATING THIS.
-----------
THE FOLLOWING SETS OUT THE CONTEXT FOR THIS REQUEST.
A DWP appointee's responsibilities are defined at https://www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-...
Some people in receipt of the benefit known as PIP mobility allowance use this allowance to lease a mobility car from the company called Motability Operations (www.motabilityoperations.co.uk); this is a commercial company and distinct from the charity known as Motability (www.motability.org.uk).
I have recently been designated as a DWP appointee for a disabled relative who leases a mobility car from Motability Operations.
AND I have recently been informed by Motability Operations that, as I am a DWP Appointee, I am required to take over the lease for my relative's mobility car.
I have asked Motability Operations to explain to me the basis of this requirement. The response I have received is that it is DWP policy that Appointees take on responsibility (& sign) the lease of a car leased by the disabled person (for whom the appointee is the designated appointee) from Motability Operations.
However Motability Operations has not been willing/able to point me towards a copy such a DWP policy.
-----------
SO MY REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FROM THE DWP IS: PLEASE WILL YOU TELL ME IF IT IS DWP POLICY THAT APPOINTEES TAKE ON RESPONSIBILITY (& SIGN) THE LEASE OF A CAR LEASED BY THE DISABLED PERSON (FOR WHOM THE APPOINTEE IS THE DESIGNATED APPOINTEE) FROM MOTABILITY OPERATIONS.
AND IF YOUR ANSWER IS 'YES' PLEASE WILL YOU, THE DWP POINT ME TOWARDS (OR SEND ME ) THE POLICY DOCUMENT / URL STATING THIS.
Thank you
Yours faithfully
