Universal Credit calculations following temporary periods of employed earning
Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
Please provide all / any document which contains the generic information, calculation, table or scale that is applied in order to calculate the universal credit entitlement of an eligible claimant making a subsequent claim after a period as an employed earner has ended before 6 months have elapsed.
To help you with this request, I am seeking to ascertain the mathematical operation that is used to calculate the entitlement to universal credit, if any, when a claimant ends a claim, takes up employment of fewer than 6 months duration and then makes a new claim because they have zero income due to their employment ending.
In effect, I am seeking to establish to effect of earned income deemed 'surplus earnings' for the purposes of UC calculations.
Yours faithfully,
Florence Elizabeth Constance Daisley

It should be noted that the 'de minimis' amount of £2500, quoted in the reply, was correct at the time of the request and the response.
It appears likely that the the de minimis will be set at £300 from April 2019. This should be used to perform the calculation.
