Looked after children 2017

The request was partially successful.

Dear Lancashire County Council,

Would you kindly be able to tell me:

1. How many children became 'looked after' in your local authority in 2017?

2. Of the children in Q1, how many were in a group of siblings of two or more (I would like the number of children, not the number of groups)?

3. How many of the children that became 'looked after' in your local authority in 2017 were initially placed in Kinship Care/Connected Persons care?

4. How many looked after children in your local authority are currently placed following care proceedings:
a) with long term LA foster carers
b) in kinship care foster placements

5.a. How many applications to be a kinship carer did you receive in 2017 in respect of children subject to Care Proceedings?
5.b. How many of those (5.a.) applications were successful?

6. How many children in your local authority were made the subject of Special Guardianship Order following Care Proceedings in 2017?

7. How many of your local authority's current foster carers are prepared and approved to be long term foster carers of sibling groups of:
a) 2
b) 3 or more

Yours faithfully,

Christina Savage

Freedom of Information, Lancashire County Council

Dear Ms Savage

Thank you for your freedom of information request submitted to The
Information Governance Team on 16^th February 2018 regarding information
about children looked after by Lancashire County Council in 2017.

After liaising with the relevant team it has become clear that we need
clarification from you as Section 1(3) of the Freedom Of Information Act
states that a public authority is not obliged to comply with a request for
information in situations where it requires further details in order to do
so.

Please can you provide clarification to question 2 and 4 of your request

2. Of the children in Q1, how many were in a group of siblings of two or
more (I would like the number of children, not the number of groups)?

Regarding the question above are you referring to the number of children
who have siblings? Or are you trying to establish where a group of
siblings were taken into care at the same time?.

4. How many looked after children in your local authority are currently
placed following care proceedings:

a) with long term LA foster carers

Regarding the question above could you clarify whether you are wanting
information of the number of individuals with ratified plans or permanence
care or those in care following the making of a care order?

Your request will now be placed on hold, if we do not receive
clarification from you by Tuesday 27^th March 2018 we will assume that you
do not wish to pursue your request and it will closed as of that date.

Should you have any enquiries please don't hesitate to contact the team
quoting reference number 945.259 (AA) by email to
[1][email address].

Yours sincerely

Freedom of Information, Lancashire County Council

Dear Ms Savage

Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000

Further to your request for information, made under the provisions of the
above Act, please see below our response.

1. How many children became 'looked after' in your local authority in
2017? 720

2. Of the children in Q1, how many were in a group of siblings of two or
more (I would like the number of children, not the number of groups)?

Thank you for providing clarification to you this aspect of your request.
Due to the nature of the way the information is recorded it does not allow
the relevant team to extract information on siblings who were taken into
care at the same time. However we are able to identify children and their
siblings  who were taken into care over a particular time but not
necessarily on the same date.

If you wish to submit a new freedom of information request in relation to
the above please email [1][email address].

3. How many of the children that became 'looked after' in your local
authority in 2017 were initially placed in Kinship Care/Connected Persons
care? 57

4. How many looked after children in your local authority are currently
placed following care proceedings:

a) with long term LA foster carers 776

b) in kinship care foster placements 73

5.a. How many applications to be a kinship carer did you receive in 2017
in respect of children subject to Care Proceedings?

5.b. How many of those (5.a.) applications were successful?

Lancashire County Council are unable to provide a figure for Kinship carer
applications made in 2017 as this information was not recorded.

6. How many children in your local authority were made the subject of
Special Guardianship Order following Care Proceedings in 2017? 92

7. How many of your local authority's current foster carers are prepared
and approved to be long term foster carers of sibling groups of:
