Number of Spare Bedrooms Paid For by LHA
Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
Please provide statistics on the number of tenants in the private housing sector where the tenant, or tenants, have at least one spare bedroom and the rent is paid in full by Local Housing Allowance without the need to top-up the rental cost from other income.
If possible, also provide specific details of the number of one, two, three, four or more bedroom properties where the above scenario applies, including the relative number of spare rooms, i.e. one or two spare bedrooms paid for in full by LHA.
E.g. A tenant is entitled to the one-bedroom LHA rate but rents a two-bedroom property which costs no more than the one-bedroom LHA rate, and therefore the tenant has a spare bedroom which is not subject to the under-occupation penalty as in the social housing sector.
Yours faithfully,
Will Goodfellow
