When were medical schools incorporated and female medical students?

The request was partially successful.

Dear University of London,

I would be grateful if the University can consider the following two requests:

Firstly, Birmingham University states in its websites:
"We were the first UK University to incorporate a Medical School"
https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/university/...

Does London University have information to show when it believes its Medical Schools were established? Does it have information stating whether the Medical School was incorporated or not?
Was it in 1898 that London University was enabled to teach medical students as well as examining them?

I found this reference to London University, which may be relevant:

"However imperfect the instruments of government, the Act of 1898 had provided the University, for the first time, with both students and teachers. These it had never had before, but only candidates and examiners. (fn. 175) It was this that first gave London anything that could properly be called a university."

Secondly, Birmingham University also states:

"We were the first UK University to welcome women to take medical degrees",

Does London University have information to show when it believes it started to welcome women to take medical degrees?
Was it in 1898 that London University was enabled to teach women medical students as well as examining them?

Yours faithfully,

Adam Keeler

Records Management,

Thank you for your email. You have reached the University's Freedom of
Information Officer.
Some University of London buildings are open now but on a limited basis
and for essential services only. We will continue to support our global
community of students. Further information is available at:

Many University staff may still be working remotely and, whilst much can
be dealt with online, the University may face challenges in compliance
with GDPR rights requests where access to records or staff availability is
an issue.
I thank you for your patience and wish you the best of luck in the current
situation.

Records Management,

Dear Adam Keeler

I am writing in response to your request for information made on 27th September.

The University of London is a federal university comprising seventeen self-governing independent member institutions and a number of central academic bodies and activities. These independent member institutions could also be able to provide figures. Further details of these bodies can be found at the following link:
http://www.london.ac.uk/colleges_institu...

I will be able to provide you with a response for the institutions directly part of the ‘central’ University. Further details on our structure can be found at the following link:http://www.london.ac.uk/structure.html

The central University does not provide an undergraduate medical course, therefore we would not hold the relevant information in this case.

The member institutions offering MBBS medical courses are listed below. They are separate legal entities and would need to be contacted individually in order to obtain the data (I've included the contact email addresses):

Kings College London
[email address]

University College London
[email address],

St Georges Medical School
[email address]

Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry
[email address]

There are other medical related courses at University of London member colleges, which can be searched on the following page: http://www.london.ac.uk/coursesearch.html

You can find out more about Freedom of Information at the University of London, our copyright guidelines and our publication scheme at the following link: http://www.london.ac.uk/foi.html

You might also be able to find some information relating to your request within the catalogue of the University Archives. For colleagues within the Archive to provide the information requested in this request will require a level of manual collation that will greatly exceed the appropriate limits defined in Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, 'Exemption where cost of compliance exceeds appropriate limit'. However, you may be able to use the catalogue to refine your request. It can be found here

If you are dissatisfied with the response you have had from the University in respect of a request for information, you may ask for an internal review of your request by contacting [email address]

If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint, you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at:
