Dear Mr Choppin

Thank you for your message requesting the traffic surveys undertaken in
advance of placing the yellow box arrangement at The Town/Silver
Street/London Road.

I can advise that this information is not held. However, the supplementary
information in the paragraph below may be of interest.

The new box marking at the junction of London Road, Southbury Road and
Silver Street has been installed to improve the operation of the junction.
In particular, the box marking helps to ensure that the exit from Silver
Street is not blocked by queuing vehicles, which would otherwise tend to
hamper the correct discharge of traffic from the northern arm, including
buses. The layout of the box marking reflects the guidance in Chapter 5
(Road Markings) of the Traffic Signs Manual 2018 and has been externally
peer-reviewed. In particular, the design provides a suitable gap so that
drivers turning right from London Road into Southbury Road can see whether
their exit is clear before entering the box. Site observations by
officers, post-installation, indicate that the junction appears to be
operating well.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your
original letter and should be addressed to:
