Shropshire Council

Dear Ms Eastham
Further to your request for information, please find our response below.
We are sorry for the delay in providing this.

Q1. During the month of April 2022, how many council employees were
working from home, and what percentage of the office based workforce does
this represent?

The number of remote log ons by staff to the Council network varies day
today, but ranged between 1,350 and 1,970 staff during April 2022  We
estimate 2,200 of our workforce are employed in roles that would typically
be office based, so the 'Working from home' percetage ranges from 61% to
88% of these office type roles.

Q2. Between 1st and 30th April 2022, how many desk bookings were made
across the council's office buildings and, on average, how many desk
bookings were there a day during this month?

During April 2022, 1,955 desk bookings were made at our office hubs.  Each
booking secures half day use of a desk, so the 1,955 equates to 977.5 full
time equivalent days of desk bookings.

Q3. How many desks were available for use in the month April 2022 across
the council's office buildings?

174 bookable desks across six 'Office Hub' sites

Q4. What was the maximum number of office staff who could theoretically
work in the office on any given day in April 2022?

Including 'Essential' Office users (who do not need to book a desk) our
six office hubs could accommodate c. 400 staff during April 2022.  Once
essential works are complete at our main HQ, this is expected to increase
to c. 600.  It should be noted that this data only relates to the
Council's six bookable office hubs.  Many more staff work from other
service delivery related buildings, e.g. Libraries, Leisure Centres, Day
Centres rather than from home.

Q5. What was the total number of office staff who worked in your council's
offices each day prior to the pandemic?

Shropshire Council already had a Smart Working programme underway,
Pre-Pandemic and a more flexible/agile way of working was already
beginning to be embraced.  Focussed 'Environment Days' in 2019, where
office staff were encouraged to trial working from home, saw the number of
remote logs ons to the Council network rise from an average of 275 per day
to 600 to 750 per day.
