Workfare participants on work programme

Department for Work and Pensions did not have the information requested.

Dear the DWP,

Please can the DWP states how many people have been mandated to Workfare under the department's Work Programme scheme. By workfare I mean community work, voluntary work, work experience or any other activity that would commonly be understood as work?

What is the average and maximum placement length?

How many of these have been required to work for private companies?

Jobcentres are required to be informed of any mandated work activity so this information should be easy to find.

@Johnny Void, could I suggest that perhaps you might have more success if you were to adapt your request.

You asked "how many people have been mandated to Workfare"

The DWP replied "Jobcentre Plus is not routinely informed of participant’s activities, which may include work experience placements, by the Work Programme provider"

Perhaps if you requested the statistics, and put your questions, for the participant's activities the DWP have been informed of you might obtain some information.

Regards

The DWP Head of Work Programmes Division[1] wrote a memo to Minister for Employment on 24 April 2012 which stated:

There are no "cost limits"[2] for Freedom of Information Act (FOI) requests as all of the DWP's Work Programme's Providers (employment related support services) have contractual obligations to provide information they hold on behalf of the DWP.
