Work Capabilty Assessments

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions, I have been informed by Atos that the contractual agreement between DWP and Work Capability Assessment Health Care Professionals did not allow for Nurses from Mental Health or Learning Disability registered nurses to be employed on DWP contracts as Work Capability Assessors. I understand that Maximus now carry out these assessments. Can DWP confirm that only Nurses from "Adult part of register NMC" may provide Work Capability Asessments. I understand that there may be Nurses on several parts of the register, however I am only concerned with primary/sole registration being on Mental health and Learning disability parts of register.

I also understand that they may, however be employed as Disability Analysts for Personal Independence Payments. Could you confirm that this is the case.

Yours faithfully,
Peter Mcdade

Dear DWP Health Services Correspondence, Thanks for your reply however I have specifically asked which part of the register nurses may be registered on in order to work as a WCA . There are at least 5 parts to the NMC register. I have also asked if DWP has specified that only nurses from the "Adult Part of the register may carry out WCA's.

I have also asked if this is the same for nurses who carry out PIP assessments.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Mcdade

Dear DWP Health Services Correspondence,
Thank you for your response. However there are at least four different parts to the NMC register and unlike other disciplines such as Occupational therapist, there is no such thing as a registered nurse. A nurse must be registered on a specific part of the register.

Which part of the register may a nurse be registered on to carry out work capability assessments ? and is there a difference in criteria for registration requirements for PIP assessments.

Simply reinstating that a Nurse registered with the NMC is not providing information as there is no part of the register for generic nursing.

Yours sincerely,

Peter Mcdade

Dear DWP Health Services Correspondence, Thankyou for your response "I can further explain that for the delivery of Work Capability Assessments under the Health and Disability Assessments Service Contract, the primary qualification of a registered nurse can be any as listed throughout the register. "

For clarification, Does this mean that a nurse from any part of the register may work as a work capability assessor. Including mental health and learning disability registered nurses ?
Can you tell me of this has always been the case or from which date that this has been the case ?

Yours sincerely,

Peter Mcdade
