Dear Mr Ackerman

TfL Ref: FOI-1794-1819

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7
October 2018.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can
confirm that we hold the information you require. Your questions and our
answers are as follows:

1.    How many buses have LED screens fitted for the external route
display, and are these permanent

We have 10 buses with LED blinds and another to join them on route 12 at a
date to be confirmed. These are fitted to six double deck buses based at
West Ham Garage and four single decks normally on routes H2 and H3 which
are based at Cricklewood Garage (Metroline).

2.    When will the remaining 2 former Woolwich ferry boats be sent to Le
Harve for scrap

The vessels were removed at the end of October.

3.    If they were sold for scrap, how much for

TfL undertook market engagement to assess the possibility of further use
of the vessels as stationary structures, but were unable to secure
commitment from an interested party within the timelines that would avoid
disruption to the Woolwich Ferry service. Subsequently, a competitive
process was carried out to find a suitable buyer for the vessels, for
environmentally sound disposal. This opportunity was advertised to all
those recycling companies appearing on the European Commission’s List of
Ship Recycling Facilities. The most economically advantageous bid that met
TfL’s Health, Safety and Environmental requirements was selected, which
resulted in a contract being awarded at no cost to TfL. The vessels were
sold at a price of £8,900 per vessel, totalling £26,700.

4.    When will the new ferrries be arriving in the UK

The exact timing of the ferries arriving in the UK has yet to be
determined, we expect that the vessels will be in the UK in November
weather dependent.

5. Can I have an updated London bus fleet list

The most recent fleet list is available on our website using the following
link:
[1]https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publication....
We plan to do the next update towards the end of this year.  We don’t have
anything finalised yet but can advise that the overall fleet is around
9,300 buses and 5,560 are at the ultra-clean Euro VI standard

6. Could I have the recordings that will be played before after the
crossing on the new ferries?

We do not hold any recordings for the new ferries at this time.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable

Dear FOI,

Thank you for your replies. Most of this is very useful however i asked if the LED blinds are permanent and why TFL are using them.

Dear Mr Ackerman

TfL Ref: FOI-1794-1819

Thank you for your further email received by Transport for London (TfL) on
2 November 2018.   Your request has been considered in accordance with the

the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can

The LED blinds involve a file being selected for configuration onto the
LED screen. The West Ham routes are part of an ongoing trial of
alternative blind technology which also covers digital signs. It will
assess quality standards of new products when used in service over a
period of time against conventional blinds. Routes H2 and H3 were set up
as digital signs because conventional static blinds did not fit the front
blind space on the small vehicles, so will keep these blinds indefinitely.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
