Dear Miss Henderson,
Thank you for your email requesting information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOI Act).
This email confirms that we are treating your correspondence as a request
for information under the FOI Act.
However, the Ministry of Defence requires further information in order to
determine whether it holds any information within the scope of your
request. In particular, you are requested to provide clarification on two
of the parts to your request –
For example Q2 of this request is ambiguous and it would be helpful to
have some idea of what granularity of unit you have in mind when you ask
about “…squadrons/detachments in operation in the UK and abroad.” Also a
time period is relevant here – are you referring to current operations?
Regarding Q4 is there any time limit on the period for which “information”
on the decision to allow female involvement in front line combat roles
should be sought. This issue goes back many years, and cost, amongst
other issues, may become a factor.
Once you have clarified your request, we will be pleased to consider it
again.
If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about
any aspect of the handling of your request, then you should contact me in
the first instance. If informal resolution is not possible and you are
still dissatisfied then you may apply for an independent internal review
by contacting the Information Rights Compliance Team, Ground Floor, Zone
D, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-mail [2][email address]).
Please note that any request for an internal review must be made within 40
working days of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution
has come to an end.
If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your
complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section
50 of the Freedom of Information Act. Please note that the Information
Commissioner will not investigate your case until the MOD internal review
process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the
Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,

Yours sincerely,
