Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000:

- The number of those students who passed first year and are now studying the second year of a Computer Science course in the current (2018/19) academic year.

- The number of those students who failed or did not complete the first year in 2017/18 and are now resitting the first year in the current academic year.

- The number of those students who failed or did not complete the first year in 2017/18 and have since withdrawn, with results divided into temporary withdrawal and permanent withdrawal.

- And finally the number of students who have so far withdrawn during the first semester of a foundation, first, or second year course within the Department of Computer Science during the current academic year and cited 'Unhappy on Course', 'Unsuitable Course', or 'Academic Reasons' as their reason for withdrawing. Preferably the results should be split into the year of the course and the reason.

Many thanks in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Mr M C Male

Dear Julie,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Aberystwyth University's handling of my FOI request 'Withdrawals in Computer Science'.

My request appears to have not received a response within twenty working days of the request being made. I would appreciate it if a revised date could be given for when the request will be processed.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/w...

Dear Mr Male,

I am writing with regard to your request for information under the Freedom
of Information Act 2000 (‘the Act’).  Please find below the University’s
response, and I apologise for the delay in providing this information.

Science in the 2017/18 academic year.

3.    The number of those students who failed or did not complete the
first year in 2017/18 and are now resitting the first year in the current
academic year.

4.    The number of those students who failed or did not complete the

Given the small number of students involved, and particularly with a more
granular breakdown of the figures, the University believes that the
disclosure of this information would breach the first data protection
principle [Article 6(1)(a) GDPR] as it could lead to the identification of
individuals and would amount to unlawful and unfair processing.  The
information is therefore exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.

If you are dissatisfied with this response, you may ask the University to
conduct a review of its decision.  To do this, please contact the Records
Manager in writing (including by fax, letter or email), describe the
original request, explain your grounds for dissatisfaction, and include an
address for correspondence.  When the review process has been completed,
if you are still dissatisfied, you may ask the Information Commissioner to
intervene.

Yours sincerely,

Julie Archer
