Wirral Country Park Parking Charges

NJT Lauro made this Freedom of Information request to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

I would like to know by what legislation the council is using to introduce car parking charges to the Wirral Country Parks.

As other councils have rolled out parking charges to their countryside recreational spaces under the Countryside Act 1968, Section 43(2), am I correct in assuming the council will introduce car parking charges using available powers under the Act?

Furthermore, can you tell me if any revenues made by the introduction of such charges have restrictions as to where they can be reinvested? For example, it would be a crass decision not to reinvest revenue into the Country Parks and instead, choose to channel the revenue into other budgets, such as executive officer salaries. Can the residents of Wirral be sure monies will be reinvested into the Country Parks exclusively?

Yours faithfully,

NJT Lauro

Dear NJT Lauro

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request of 17 July 29017, in
which you asked:

“I would like to know by what legislation the council is using to

As other councils have rolled out parking charges to their countryside
recreational spaces under the Countryside Act 1968, Section 43(2), am I
correct in assuming the council will introduce car parking charges using
available powers under the Act?

Furthermore, can you tell me if any revenues made by the introduction of
such charges have restrictions as to where they can be reinvested? For
example, it would be a crass decision not to reinvest revenue into the
Country Parks and instead, choose to channel the revenue into other
budgets, such as executive officer salaries. Can the residents of Wirral

In response to your enquiry, Wirral Council can advise that full details
of the relevant legislation can be seen on the attached Public Notice,
placed in the Wirral Globe on 8th March 2017.

The revenue generated from the parking charges in the Country Parks will
be used towards the running and maintenance costs of the Country Parks.

Yours sincerely
