WINDRUSH affair - intelligence failure?

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Home Office should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Home Office,

The Home Office's Immigration Department has a public policy position that it is 'intelligence-led'.

1. Does the Immigration Department have an Intelligence Section? If so:

2. Did it know that WINDRUSH victim British Citizens were being denied, detained, deported and destitute overseas because of a derelict immigration policy (National Audit Office independent finding refers)? If not, why not? Who is the Director responsible for this intelligence failure?

3. Or did it not know that WINDRUSH victim British Citizens were being denied, detained, deported and destitute overseas because of a derelict immigration policy (National Audit Office independent finding refers)? If it did know, who is the Director responsible for this intelligence failure?

4. Either way, there has been an obvious and high impact intelligence failure. It is a clear matter of public interest to know have there been any consequent misconduct proceedings? And if so, what did they find?

Yours faithfully,

L Alvarez

Dear FOI Requests,

The statutory FoIA backstop for full reply passed some 13 days ago. Please can you conduct internal review and let me know the reason for the delay? Please can you also let me know when to expect a full reply?

Yours sincerely,

L Alvarez

Dear FOI Requests,

The Information Commissioner's 'long stop' expired a fortnight ago at which point internal review was requested. Another fortnight has passed without either acknowledgement or reply.

Please can you confirm:
a) That internal review is happening. And
b) When will the Home Office reply?

Yours sincerely,

L Alvarez

Dear FOI Requests,

I am afraid that I am at all not satisfied with the Home Office's position.

I have submitted these questions to the Home Office with the entirely legitimate expectations that FoIA provides for. But some 3 months on now, all I have is wordplay and avoidance.

It's gone like this so far. I submit these questions to the Home Office's FoIA entry point. They are then passed to a second part of the Home Office. That second part of the Home Office writes - unacceptably late - to say that it's all down to another, third, part of the Home Office. ("The Home Office has asked Wendy Williams, as the Independent Adviser, to make an assessment of these questions").

So who, please, in the Home Office is actually going to provide the (now even later) substantive response to these questions? Why, please, did that second part of the Home Office take so long to say virtually nothing? Is the Home Office doing anything about that FoIA breach? And when, please, will I receive a proper reply?

Yours sincerely,

L Alvarez
