Wiltshire Council SEN Staff Training

We're waiting for bill webber to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Wiltshire Council,
Regarding all staff that are empowered to make descisons about Children's education needs that work in or directly around the Education Dept of the Council, please say what training is given to those staffs.

My understanding is that staff are not trained in several important fields of this occupation and that this has led to some Children's educations being completely ruined.

This request is to find out exactly what training is or has been given to the staff that decide if or not to provide an education of special educational needs.

Yours faithfully,

Bill Webber (the father of one of disabled children's lives you ruined in Wiltshire)

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) the Council is obliged to:

Let you know whether we hold the information you have requested
Provide you with the requested information, if held, (subject to any exemptions to disclosure that may apply)

I can confirm that the council holds the information you requested which is as follows;

SEND staff undertake a wide range of professional development depending on their roles. All will have safeguarding training with area specific training according to their areas for development. For example, educational psychologists have to maintain a CPD portfolio for audit by the Health and Care Professions Council. Much training is conducted within and between teams and ranges from SEN system management (legalities and processes) to child and environmental studies such as ASD, social and emotional needs, dyslexia and mental health.

There are no specific staff who make decisions on their own about special educational needs. These are made as part of SEN Panel decisions which involve a variety of staff including managers, school leaders and educational psychologists.

Information supplied under the Act may be subject to protection under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. You may use the information we have provided in response to your request under the terms of the Open Government Licence.

If you are dissatisfied with the response to your request you can ask for a review of the handling of your request for information. Details of the complaints procedure are below.

Dear Wiltshire Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Wiltshire Council's handling of my FOI request 'Wiltshire Council SEN Staff Training'.

In light of your response, the decision to remove my own Son'e education plan was made out of malic by one individual who was upset because I had used the complaints procedures against her.
Youi clearly state that all decisions made about Children are made by a Team.
I do not accept that this was the case.
I would like you to undertake an internal review because the information you provided is a direct contrast to how things actually work at Wiltshire Council
