Why is New Vision University on the qualifications we may accept list?

The request was successful.

Dear General Medical Council,
I would like to know why the New Vision University has been placed on the Overseas medical qualifications we may accept list? I already know that universities have to meet certain criteria set out by GMC but on paper it looks like New Vision University meets all of these so what is the particular reason why?

Yours faithfully,
Ali

Mark Ellen (0161 923 6347), General Medical Council

Dear Ali

Reference: IR1-3165399490

Thank you for your e-mail, below.

You asked why a medical qualification from New Vision University in
Georgia has been placed on a list of ‘[1]overseas medical qualifications
we may accept’.

New Vision University was placed on this list because, following receipt
of their Medical School Qualification Review form, ([2]MSQR1), it was
found that a student could potentially graduate from this institution
after completing a number of hours that falls below the minimum number of
hours specified in our [3]acceptable overseas qualification criteria.

When an institution is on this list it means that we will carry out an
individual assessment of each applicant that has qualified from that
institution. Our assessment is carried out against the [4]acceptable
overseas qualification criteria which is published on our website.

I hope that this is helpful.

Regards

Mark
