Who is in charge?

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust,

When Dr Marsh is carrying out his other job, or attending a conference or having a holiday etc, who is then responsible for running your Trust in his absence and how much is he or she paid?

Dear J Lowe

Further to your email dated 12th August 2014, the CEO as the Accountable Officer is responsible for the running of the Trust. In addition the Trust has robust arrangements in place in accordance with the requirements of an emergency service and a Category One Responder organisation. As such, the Trust always has a Gold Commander on duty (24/7) who acts on behalf of the CEO in his absence until the CEO can return to take command of the Service.

I am obliged to advise you that if you are dissatisfied with the Trust’s response to your request you have a right to complain to the Trust and should set out your concerns to the Freedom of Information Officer, EEAST, Hospital Approach, Broomfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM1 7WS or by email to [East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust request email]. If you remain dissatisfied following this, you have a right under Section 50 of the FOIA to seek a determination from the Information Commissioner on whether the Act has been properly applied by the Trust. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Dear East of England Ambulance Service

Sorry but that's not the information I was seeking.
Most organisations will have a recognised "deputy" and I think it was your old HR director up until recently.
I want to know who is now responsible for running the organisation when Dr Marsh is away particularly for things like holidays.
The "gold commanders" are used more for unexpected and serious circumstances such as major incidents as far as I have been told.
I also wanted to know how much they are being paid.
Surely someone must be in charge for the 4 out of 7 days Dr Marsh isn't there. He can't be in 2 or even 3 places at one time.

Yours sincerely,

J Lowe
