White warning lights on emergency vehicles

The request was successful.

Dear South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust,

I am enquiring as to what exemption this Trust has for the use of flashing/alternating white warning lights on your emergency vehicles (not the flashing/alternating headlamps) but specifically the lights used in the front grille's and lightbar's which fall under the remit of the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations.

I await your reply in due course.

Yours faithfully,

Gavin Webb

Dear South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust's handling of my FOI request 'White warning lights on emergency vehicles'.

By law, public authorities must respond promptly to requests, in nearly all cases they must respond within 20 working days, this has clearly not been the case with my request.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/w...

Yours faithfully,

Gavin Webb

IREDALE, Gillian (SOUTH CENTRAL AMBULANCE SERVICE NHS FOUNDATION TRUST),

Hi,

Thank you for your email, we apologise for the delay in replying to you which is entirely this department's fault.

Our driving standards department have confirmed that we have no exemption in law pertaining to the fitment and use of flashing white strobe lights on the front of any of our front-line vehicles.

As a result we are not aware of any such lighting on any SCAS vehicles.

If you have any details or sightings of such lighting then please could you let us know and our driving standards department will address the issue as a priority.

I hope this information meets your requirements but if you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been handled, you can request a further review by writing to: Will Hancock, Chief Executive, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Units 7 & 8 Talisman Business Centre, Talisman Road, Bicester, Oxon, OX26 6HR.

If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint, you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. Telephone 0303 123 1113 Website http://www.ico.gov.uk.
