Which Local Authorities give offer 100% Business rates relief?

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Education,

In answer to a question raised by Hew Merriman MP in the commons this month, Early Years Minister Nadhim Zahawi said that he knew of 2 Local Authorities who do not charge their private settings business rates.

Can you please tell me which LA’s he was referring to?

Yours faithfully,

Jo Morris Golds

RESPONSE

Dear Ms Morris Golds

Re: Freedom of Information Request, reference 2019-0008114

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 25
February 2019.

You requested:

Dear Department for Education,

In answer to a question raised by Hew Merriman MP in the commons this
month, Early Years Minister Nadhim Zahawi said that he knew of 2 Local
Authorities who do not charge their private settings business rates.

Local authorities offer a variety of arrangements for business rates.

The Minister often meets childcare providers and is therefore aware of a
range of arrangements and discounts for small businesses and childcare
providers.

In the House of Commons Exchange on 4 February 2019, the Minister was
referring to these local arrangements in general.

It was not his intention to refer to a specific level of discount, and can
see that the implication in this exchange may be unclear. Therefore, he
has asked that the official report in Hansard be updated to reflect this.

The Government has made changes to Small Business Rate Relief, from which
many providers will be benefitting. We have also provided powers to enable
local authorities to offer business rate discounts entirely as they see
fit.  When they do, up to 50% of the cost of any local discount granted is
funded by HM Treasury.
