When Council Tax summons costs are applied to the debtor's account

Becky Saunder made this Freedom of Information request to East Northamptonshire District Council This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear East Northamptonshire District Council,

I have it on good authority that it is customary for billing authorities to increase a Council Taxpayer's outstanding debt by a sum equal to its standard summons costs on issuing a summons to the debtor for late and non-payment.

In the case of East Northamptonshire District Council, I would like disclosing at what stage in Council Tax recovery proceedings are summons costs applied to the debtor's account, pursuant to reg 34(5) of the Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement) Regulations 1992.

Yours faithfully,

Becky Saunder

"Our response:

Then MR ALEXANDER NISSEN QC (sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge) must have been misled by someone.
