What measures have been taken to warn of dangers in rice milk product

Anna Black made this Freedom of Information request to Tesco Stores Limited

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Tesco Stores Limited,

I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information act. I am contacting you regarding the levels of arsenic present in rice milk which scientists have found to be extremely harmful to children, being linked to the development of some forms of cancer.

You may know the NHS already advised parents not to feed rice milk, which contains the natural poison, to under-fives.

I am contacting you to ask what measures have been taken, if any, to provide sufficient information to customers on the dangers of this product and if the company is presenting clear and correct labeling on products to warn of the harms.

If nothing has been done thus far, I would like to know why, and whether or not the store has objectives to adjust the labeling of these products to give concise information and warnings.

Yours faithfully,
Anna Black

Thank you for contacting us.
I understand you are concerned about the natural levels of Arsenic that
occur in rice.
We act on feedback from our customers and will be adding this information
to our Rice Milk packaging.
This will complement the information about which milk products are safe
for babies that is already on the Tesco Loves Baby website.
