The request was partially successful.

Dear Transport for London,

Please could you confirm:

1. What is the speed limit on the A2 westbound between Falconwood and Eltham?
2. If a temporary speed limit is in place, from which dates does this speed limit apply?
3. If the GATSO speed camera on this stretch of road (the first before the junction with the S Circular) is active, and what speed limit it currently reports to?

Yours faithfully,
Elisa Mountburn

Dear Elisa

Thanks for your email of 6 September requesting information about the
speed limit on the A2.

The speed limit has been reduced to 30mph between the Kidbrooke
Interchange and Eltham Tunnel. This is a temporary change to facilitate a
Safety Barrier (VRS) renewal scheme, and the location is being monitored
and enforced by variable speed limit cameras. A 24 hour speed restriction
is necessary as parts of the safety barrier system have been removed. The
work itself is taking place at night between 21:00 and 5:00 and lane
closures are in place. This is to minimise disruption to road users, and
for the safety of personnel carrying out the works.

The temporary 30mph speed limit is in operation in both directions of the
A2 between Eltham Tunnel and the Kidbrooke Park Road junction for the
duration of the works. Work began on 4 January 2016 and are anticipated to
be completed by the end of November 2016.

I apologise for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of these
essential works.

I hope I’ve managed to answer all your queries and you find the
information above helpful.

Thanks again for contacting us. If there’s anything else we can help you
with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343
222 1234 and we’ll be happy to help you.

Kind regards
