What is the Government's Brexit negotiating position?
Dear Department for Exiting the European Union,
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
On 2 October 2016 the Prime Minister announced that Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union would be triggered by the end of March 2017. A period of negotiation of the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union will then follow.
Please could you provide me with a document summarising the Government's negotiating position? What sort of deal are you looking for and what terms do you want to negotiate with our European neighbours?
Note that I intend to forward your response to the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Lord Speaker in order for them to deposit the paper in both libraries of Parliament. I feel it is important for MPs and peers to at least be aware of the Government's Brexit negotiating position.
Yours faithfully,
Michael Richards
