What does WSCC charge utilities for closing roads; what was Velo South charged

Chris Matthews made this Freedom of Information request to West Sussex County Council

Dear West Sussex County Council,

When utilities close roads for repairs or improvements, are they charged a rental or fee for road closure, to reflect the wider costs to the community of the loss of road amenity.
What are those charges.
Are the organizers of Velo South being charged for the road closures they wish to make.
If so, how much is that.

Yours faithfully,

Chris Matthews

Dear Chris Matthews,

Thank you for your enquiry, which has been forwarded to the appropriate
officers for a response.  The usual timescale for a response is twenty
working days, that is by or on 4 September 2018.

If for any reason the Council needs to extend this timescale you will be
notified in accordance with the relevant legislation.

Please note that in 2012 the County Council adopted a position in
principle that FoI and EIR requests to West Sussex County Council and the
Council's responses may be published on the Council's website in a
suitably anonymised form. This is in addition to the individual response
to the requestor, and in line with the Council's commitment to
transparency and open data.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr Matthews

I refer to your request dated 5^th August, which has been dealt with under
the FOIA.

Your request related to road closure charges.

We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
confirm that this Authority holds some data relevant to your request.

I am now able to respond to you with the following:

I can confirm that the council does not charge Utilities any rental fee
for road closures, although it does charge a fee to cover officer time and
applicable advertising costs.  The charges levied can be seen on West
Sussex County Councils website via this link
[1]https://www.westsussex.gov.uk/roads-and-...

The costs for special event road closures mirror the costs applied to
Utilities and again can be seen at the link offered above.

Due to the scale of the Velo South event, any additional officer time
spent organising the road closures will also be charged to the organisers,
in addition to the standard fees.
