What autism / Asperger / ASC awareness training do service commissioners receive?

The request was partially successful.

Dear South West Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT),

What autism / Asperger / ASC awareness training do service commissioners (and decision-makers / planners of services etc) receive?

How often is training rolled out?

What form does it take?

Who is the provider?

Many thanks,

Yours faithfully,

[P. Smith]

Whitbread Kathleen (5PY) South West Essex, South West Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT)

Dear Whitbread Kathleen (5PY) South West Essex,

Re: "Commissioners do not receive specific training in the area of Autism, Aspergers and ASC. However, as part of the role they do link into relevant conferences and workshops on children, young people and maternity issues. Clearly we are working to develop the specialist pathways in line with the national autism plan. In those meetings and discussions, commissioners work directly with expert clinicians and service users.
If it is our view that the collaborative working approach outlined above is the best way of ensuring services are developed in line with current practise and thinking."

By service users, do you mean those who have autism? What age group?

Adults with autism can tell you what it was / is like for them. Do you ask them?

Do you also mean carers of those with autism? How do you recruit these service users?

Thank you,

Yours sincerely,

[P. Smith]
