Dear Ribston Hall High School,

WHAT ARE THE NON IONISING RADIATION SOURCES & LEVELS AT RIBSTON HALL HIGH SCHOOL, GLOUCESTER
NOTICE OF FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST

Overall accountability for Health & Safety (H&S) lies with the employer of the members of staff in the school. However day-to-day running of the school including responsibility for the H&S of staff & pupils is normally delegated to the Head Teacher & School Management Team. They have a key role in making sure risks are managed effectively on site.
As part of managing the H&S of your school, you already need to control the risks in your workplace under the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (MHSW); you need to think about what might cause harm to people & take responsible steps to prevent harm – this includes considering any risks arising from exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs).
The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work Regulations 2016 (CEMFAW), mean that you now have to assess your own, your staffs & your pupils potential exposure to EMFs.
An EMF is produced whenever a piece of electrical or electronic equipment i.e. TV, computer, mobile phone etc. is used. EMFs are static electric, static magnetic & time varying electric, magnetic & electromagnetic (radio wave) fields with frequencies up to 300GHz. EMFs are present in & surrounding virtually all workplaces & if they are of high enough intensity, you may need to take action to make sure yourself, staff & pupils & visitors are protected from any adverse effects.
