West Kirby sea defence

The request was successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,
the Sailing School is built outside the proposed sea defence and is being refurbished/rebuilt.

1.What measures have been taken that enables the structure to withstand the force of winds and waves?

2.What steps have been taken to keep sea-water out of the building?

3.What steps have been taken to protect the structure and contents (furniture, fittings, etc) from the effects of sea-water should the measures taken in 2 above fail?

4.Becase we know that the entire area locally surrounding the Sailing School is liable to flood at the time of high tide, what measures have been taken to raise the height of the building above the known flood level?

5.What measures have been taken to protect the building against the effects of sea-level changing arising from, say, a 2 degC rise in global temperature?

6.What measures have Council taken to protect this currently vulnerable building from the effects of Global Climate Change?

Yours faithfully,

John H Hutchinson

Dear Mr Hutchinson

We write in response to your request of 15 December 2020 regarding West
Kirby sea wall and can respond as follows:

Your initial statement of “the Sailing School is built outside the
proposed sea defence and is being refurbished/rebuilt” is incorrect.  The
Sailing Centre re-development is enclosed by the proposed flood wall.
This arrangement is detailed within the Flood Risk Assessment which
accompanied the Sailing Centre Planning Application (DPP3/15/01383) and
also in the current application for the proposed flood wall
(DPP4/20/01637).
