Dear Ross Hunter

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000-INFORMATION REQUEST

Your request for information has been considered under the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our response is as follows:

- The total spend on staff and student wellbeing services (or the
equivalent department) during the 2018/19 academic year.

Response:

2018/19 spend re Student Wellbeing Services:
  Actual Amount Full Year (£)
STAFF COSTS 2,117,337
OTHER OPERATING EXPENSES 533,313
Total Result 2,650,650
2018/19 spend re Staff Wellbeing Services:
  Actual Amount Full Year (£)
COSTS 2,117,337

- Are student mental health services funded by the total identified above?
Y/N

Response: Yes - the services which are directly provided by DMU are
included in the totals identified above (2018/19 spend re: Student
Wellbeing Services), however specialist mental health support in Higher
Education is largely funded through the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA)
which is administered by Student Finance England (SFE). This funding is
attached to the student rather than the university, and SFE determine how
this funding is allocated, some of it will go to the university, but the
rest goes to independent agencies who provide the support directly to the
student.

- If not, could you please identify which departments are responsible for
student mental health support?
