Wellbeing Spend at Cardiff University
Dear Cardiff University,
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I’d like to make a request regarding information on wellbeing services.
I’d like to request information regarding:
- The total spend on staff and student wellbeing services (or the equivalent department) during the 2018/19 academic year.
- Are student mental health services funded by the total identified above? Y/N
- If not, could you please identify which departments are responsible for student mental health support?
I’d kindly request that the information is sent digitally, in a spreadsheet format; .csv or .xls file types would be ideal.

Dear Russ,
I acknowledge receipt of your email received by this office on 20/11/19 in
which you requested information regarding student and staff wellbeing at
Cardiff University.
Your request will now be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act
2000 and has been allocated reference FOI19-460 which should be quoted in
all correspondence. We will respond to your request within 20 working days
starting the next working day after receipt, therefore you can expect to
receive a response no later than 18/12/19.
Where we consider that we will not be able to meet this deadline or if
further time is required to consider the public interest test we will
contact you as soon as possible and give you a revised date for response.
In some circumstances a fee may be payable and, if that is the case, we
will let you know. A fees notice will be issued to you, and you will be
required to pay before we will proceed to deal with your request.

I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated
20/11/19.
For ease of reference, I have reproduced your questions below and set out
our corresponding responses.
1. The total spend on staff and student wellbeing services (or the
equivalent department) during the 2018/19 academic year.
Staff
Supporting staff wellbeing are:
1FTE Staff Wellbeing Manager and 2x 1FTE Staff Wellbeing Officers.
Staff wellbeing operational budget= £17,000
The Employee Assistance Programme (24/7 365 days per year) = £13,000
Occupational Health provision = approximately £200,000
Students
Students are supported by the University’s Student Support and Wellbeing
team, further details of which can be found on our website

2. Are student mental health services funded by the total identified
above?
Staff mental health and student mental health are managed by different
departments with different budgets.
3. If not, could you please identify which departments are responsible
for student mental health support?
