Well Water: SU49/90

We're waiting for Michelle to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear British Geological Survey,

I wonder if you might be able to help us. We are in the midst of buying a semi-rural property in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, with a well, which supplies all the water for the house. We want to make sure the well is in good order and supplies safe water, but we’re struggling to find a company that might provide an inspection service this area. In addition, we don’t know if such a service exists or is required.

In my search, I stumbled across you site, which shows that the well is in your well water archives. The reference is: SU49/90.

Bottomline: I’d like to know what prospective buyers should do when they want to purchase a property with a well. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Michelle Meade

Dear Michelle

Thank you for your request made under the Freedom of Information Act
2000.  Your request is for information that we provide through our usual
services.

Because there is an existing service through which we manage requests for
information about wells your request does not need to be dealt with under
the Freedom of Information legislation and therefore we are closing this
request.

The borehole record you require can be found on our GeoIndex
[1]https://mapapps2.bgs.ac.uk/geoindex/home...
Please ‘Add data’, look for ‘Boreholes’ on the left hand side of the pop
up window and ‘Add boreholes’.  Zoom into your area of interest and click
on the coloured dot.  If we hold a record for this well you will be able
to view it by clicking on the scan link.
