3. If you use chemicals is the council looking to using a more environmentally friendly method?

Thank you for your request for information regarding weed control, which
we received on 16^th July 2021. Your request has been considered under the
Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

 

Please see your request and our response below:

 

1.        What method do you use for weed control?
- Mechanical by hand held Strimmer or mowers - Physical by hand pulling or
Chemical treatment.
- Chemical herbicide control on hard standing areas in relation to
Highways

2.        Do you use Chemicals?
- Yes.

3.        If you use chemicals is the council looking to using a more
environmentally friendly method?
- Yes we constantly look at reducing chemical usage and environmentally
friendly methods.
- We have asked contractors to look into the potential use of other
methods for highways

 

4.        Does the Council carry out weed control duties in-house or is
this contracted out?
- Both.
- In house for amenities/grounds maintenance contracted out for highways

5.        (If contracted out) who is the contractor responsible for street
cleansing duties?
- Street cleansing are an in-house service.
- The external contractor for highways is GMTS environmental services,
which are monitored by the Council’s Highways management.

6.        Contact details for the person(s) responsible for managing weed
control within the council
This will fall under various departments for Grounds Maintenance .
