Dear Avon & Somerset Constabulary,

To help assist with a study in to cost effectiveness of public sector websites, can you please provide me with:

a) design and development costs to launch (single figure)
b) ongoing hosting, licensing and maintenance costs (per year or other suitable measure)
c) brief overview of server technologies used (e.g. Microsoft .NET, Apache/PHP, etc.)

I fully understand that contractual agreements, tender documents and other materials may be commercial in confidence, but do hope that you can assist with indication of costs and technology as other forces have done for me already.

the cost effectiveness of public sector websites. This request will be
dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the Act, subject
to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third
party. In some circumstances Avon and Somerset Constabulary may be unable
to achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given
a revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity.

I write in connection with your request for information dated 28^th June
concerning public sector websites.

Specifically you asked:

To help assist with a study in to cost effectiveness of public sector
websites, can you please provide me with:

other suitable measure)
c) brief overview of server technologies used (e.g. Microsoft .NET,
Apache/PHP, etc.)

Your request for information has now been considered and the information
asked for is below.

Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires Avon and
Somerset Constabulary, when refusing to provide such information (because
the information is exempt) to provide you the applicant with a notice
which: (a) states that fact, (b) specifies the exemption in question and
(c) states (if that would not otherwise be apparent) why the exemption
applies.

a) This information is not recorded. The Avon and Somerset website was
designed and developed in house five years ago using the existing staff
resources at the time. Unfortunately the time and costs of the website was
not recorded during this period.

b) The exemption applicable to this question is Section 21 – Information
reasonably accessible by other means. A similar request was received last
year and the response, which provides answers to your question, was made
publicly available on our forces publication scheme. I have provided a
link to this below.

c) The server used is Microsoft.NET.
