Hello Kirsten,

May I be sent the names of the Officers delegated with responsibility for replying within the statutory maximum of 20 working days with the requested information? This is so that I can ask them directly for an update rather than wait 20 working days to find out if they do in fact undertake this duty satisfactorily. I also want to ask them why it takes this long to access the location of 4 key strategic corporate documents and if best value is adequately achieved by systems of information dissemination being this inefficient when undertaking requests for corporate service that are as simple as your one.

Yours sincerely,

Jed Keenan

Hello Kirsten

Thanks for your reply. You have stated that the long term Economic Development Strategy is embodied in Sustainable Community Strategy. The SCS states that Wandsworth LBC wants to:

‘Encourage a viable and prosperous economy in Wandsworth, particularly with respect to small enterprises.
Maximise the economic potential and vibrancy of our town centres.
Co-ordinate and deliver targeted regeneration programmes in our priority neighbourhoods (Queenstown, Latchmere, Roehampton and
Tooting wards) to reduce poverty and economic and social exclusion.
Reduce worklessness in Wandsworth.
Develop the skills of Wandsworth’s adult workforce and improve opportunities for lifelong learning.
Secure significant funds from the partners, stakeholders, private and public sectors to enable the above priorities to be implemented’

Does this mean that Wandsworth LBC has no separate Economic Development Strategy for any of this? If it helps, the LSP governing principles document from 2006 refers to an Economic Development Officer.

The LSP governing principles document you linked to was in front of the non-executive Overview and Strategy Committee. May I ask if it was agreed in turn by members in Full Council or the executive in Cabinet?

Yours sincerely,

Jed Keenan

Freedom of Information Act request -  2011/5161 - Economic Development
Strategy

I refer to your request for information received on 12/09/2011.  Please
see the information below in response to your request: -

The Executive approved the recommendations of Paper NO. 06-761 on 2
October 2006 (this is the paper which sets out the "LSP governing
principles").  The Executive approved the "future membership, role and
structure of the Wandsworth Local Strategic Partnership (WLSP) set out in
this report."

The statement of executive decisions for the 2 October 2006 meeting is
available here -
[3]http://ww3.wandsworth.gov.uk/moderngov/m...

There is no separate Economic Development Strategy as the Council uses the
Sustainable Community Strategy to guide its work.  The Council is no
longer required to produce a strategy, or a Local Economic Assessment, and
does not think doing so would be an effective use of its limited
resources.

The Council does however produce an Employment and Skills Strategy for the
borough through the Wandsworth Employment and Skills Partnership.  This
recently went to committee (Paper Number 11-711) for approval and is
available to view via the link below:
