Website accessibility disproportionate burden
Dear Vision West Nottinghamshire College,
I am contacting you with regard to your website accessibility statement:
https://www.wnc.ac.uk/About-us/Accessibi...
In the statement you claim disproportionate burden under Part 2 Section 7 of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2018....
You have claimed disproportionate burden for the following:
It cannot be guaranteed that all pre-recorded audio and video content is accompanied with a text alternative, captions, audio description, sign language interpretation, audio description.
As required by Part 2 Section 7 (2) of the regulations mentioned above, you were required to conduct an assessment of impacting factors before making the disproportionate burden claim. Information on the types of evidence expected in the assessment can be found in the latest monitoring report produced by GDS: https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio....
Given that you made a claim in the accessibility statement dated 18th August 2022, please can you provide me with all documentary evidence that meets monitoring expectations which supports your disproportionate burden claim.
Kind regards,
Chris
Thank you for your request for information. In line with the provisions of
the Act, the college will endeavour to respond within 20 working days and
therefore on or before 10^th October 2022. If the request is such that it
necessitates the college to extend this response deadline I will be in
touch prior to 10^th October to let you know.
Best wishes

Hi Chris,
We have been converting and removing non compliant images and videos from our web sites for some time now.
At the time of updating our statement we were not sure that we were 100% compliant and so left the statement unaltered. The team have confirmed that 100% of our videos are now hosted on YouTube and subtitles are available on all of them. We also have text alternatives on images.
We will now amend our web accessibility statement accordingly.
The original assessment was made at a point when the college was in financial difficulties and we were in intervention status by the people who fund Further Education (the FEFC). The majority of our web team had been made redundant and we had zero capacity to make changes at the scale required. We expected to be out of financial intervention and set a target date of 2022 to become compliant with externally hosted material.
Regards
Gavin
