WCA: Requests for audio-recordings that were not accommodated

A C Smithson made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

In your response to request VTR 3713-3218, you wrote that there have been 937 advance requests for audio-recordings and 505 have been accommodated.

This means that 432 requests have not been accommodated. How many of those not accommodated was due to:
- claimant's refusal to sign part or all of the consent form?
- claimant's failure to turn up for assessment?
- broken or unavailable equipment?
- unavailability of any HCP willing to conduction recorded assessment?
- any other reason?

I am aware that Atos often reports claimants who refuse to sign the consent form as 'Did Not Attend' which is misleading. The true figures based on the real reasons are required.

Thank you and Yours faithfully,

A C Smithson

Now isn't that strange? In a response to ACS on 3rd December, we were told;

"… 9 were turned down due to recording equipment not being available."

(http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/12...)

But how could the author of that response have known that the reason was lack of recording equipment – as opposed to, say, there not being an 'HCP' around who was prepared to be recorded? ...

...because we are told in this response of 6th December:-

"...Atos had only recorded that 9 requests were turned down, however they have confirmed that they do not collate any data for the reason why they had not been accommodated ." [sic]

One way or another, I smell a pie with pork in it.

Not to mention that, on 25 September 12;
(VTR 3655-3037)

Mr D Paulley was told that up until the end of July 12,
20 requests for audio recorded work capability
assessments had not been complied with!
