WBC - Reported to the Information Commissioner

Pete Sheffield made this Freedom of Information request to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council,

Please see the following link to the Wirral Globe, local newspaper:

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/980817...

It reads 'THE identity of a previously anonymous whistleblower who helped expose astonishing blunders in Wirral Council has been revealed - on the local authority’s own website.

The Globe has been contacted by Gary Downey - who believes there is now no point in trying to protect his identity after the shocking internet revelation.

Mr Downey, a former council highways and technical services employee, says the “outing” on the Wirral.gov website has left him stunned and too stressed to attend work.'

Furthermore please read the following article:

http://www.wirralglobe.co.uk/news/981121...

'But now he has been informed that more than 70 copies of the offending file have been sent out by a town hall official in printed form to every one of Wirral's 66 councillors, as well as to several senior officers.'

"It would be beyond belief were it not for the fact the monumental incompetence of this council has been so well-documented.

"This latest Basil Fawlty manoeuvre just shows how bad things are.”

Dear Mr Sheffield, WBC are already on the ICO's files for breaching the DPA,The ICO have very recently adujicated against them, and are holding the information incase another complaint is received.
I hope WBC gets what it deserves, but I doubt it.

Dear Mr Sheffield.

After ten long months they have finally gave you a partial reply. This comes as no surprise to me.

This response is only down to the fact that I contacted the ICO two weeks ago regarding the data breach.

There will be more detailed information for you over the following months after I lodge my complaint with the ICO.

Regards

Gary Downey

Beggars belief that they put a whistleblower's name into the public domain and there is not even a cursory investigation!! It was serious enough to make headlines in all the local media yet MBC shrug it off as an "administrative error" with no one held to account!

I cant see how how this could have happened by "accident" and knowing WBC it was almost certainly deliberate to deter other would be whistleblowers.

WBC apparently continue as the abusive and thoroughly rotten council of the pre Klonowski days despite cliches being trotted out of "lessons learned" etc.

I have recently lodged a formal complaint with the ICO after getting one of Ms Corrins stonewalling letters.
I am astonished at the number of disgruntled people just on this web site imagine how many others= what strikes me is how does Graham Burgess remain in post after all he is the senior officer !
