The request was partially successful.

Dear South West Water Limited,
We are looking to purchase a property in cornwall which when looking on the maps, has a well in the garden. Where can we find any information about this well as it is not visible.
Thank you

Yours faithfully,
Mrs Trump

Dear Mrs Trump
Thank you for your enquiry.

South West Water doesn't have information on domestic wells or boreholes, but as described in my previous response on the 'What Do They Know' web site https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/w... we have four disused groundwater sources in Cornwall:

Barn Park Borehole at Boscastle
Kilkhampton Borehole at Kilkhampton
Tremail Borehole at Tremail
Trewollack Shaft at Newquay

There is information on more boreholes provided on the British Geological Society web site at http://mapapps.bgs.ac.uk/geologyofbritai... (zoom in on the relevant area of the map and click the 'Borehole Scans' icon, click on any boreholes shown to get more information).

The Environment Agency may also have information on wells or boreholes, their contact details are at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk

If the well is in use (or intended for use) for supplying drinking water to the property then the local Environmental Health Officer at Cornwall Council would be able to provide more information and advice, in particular on water quality sampling and testing requirements.

For information, I should also point out that South West Water Ltd is not subject to the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), as stated on the 'What Do They Know' web site; "Please note that the ICO no longer considers Water & Sewerage companies to be subject to the Environmental Information Regulations (ref. FER0260426)…" etc.

Please let me know if you require further information.
