Dear Affinity Water,

I would like to request some information on water fluoride levels for a public health research study at the University of Manchester.

Please can you supply:

1. Water fluoride concentration sample data (consumer tap samples) for every Water Supply Zone within the regions that you supply water to, for every year from 2009-2020?

Please supply this in Mg of fluoride per litre, with the date of the sample, and the Water Supply Zone name and zone code, preferably as an Excel file.

2. GIS Shapefile maps showing the Water Supply Zone boundaries for every year from 2009-2020.

Yours faithfully,

Deborah Moore

Dear data protection,

I'm hoping you can pass this query on to the person / team that prepared the water fluoride sample data for the recent EIR request that we submitted on this website.

Many thanks for providing the Water Supply Zone Shapefiles and Fluoride sample data. We have started to analyse it and it all looks good but we just have a few queries which hopefully you can assist with. The Shapefile maps for the Water Supply Zones and the Excel files that contain the Fluoride sample data have some slight differences in the naming of the Water Supply Zones. The zone codes are the same but I am just wanting to confirm that they are in fact referring to the same zone, and to ask if one name is more correct than the other? For some the names are very similar but for others the names are quite different (e.g. Ashford versus Staines).

Please see below:

Z002: Name in Shapefile: BARKWAY/THERFIELD --> Name in Excel: Buntingford/Therfield
Z024: Name in Shapefile: - HARLOW/HADHAM --> Name in Excel - Harlow
Z045: Name in Shapefile - CHORLEYWOOD/GERRARDS CROSS --> Name in Excel - Rickmansworth/Gerrards Cross
Z047: Name in Shapefile - RICKMANSWORTH/ICKENHAM --> Name in Excel - Ickenham/Denham
Z065: Name in Shapefile - STAINES --> Name in Excel - Ashford
Z072: Name in Shapefile - SHENLEY NORTH --> Name in Excel - Shenley
ZO82: Name in Shapefile - LUTON PARK TOWN --> Name in Excel - Luton Park Street
Z086: Name in Shapefile - ASHFORD --> Name in Excel - Staines

Also there are some zones that have the same zone code, that are adjacent to each other but have different names e.g. Z078: "DOVER - ALKHAM VALLEY" and 078 "DOVER - MAIN ZONE" are shown with separate boundaries and names in the Shapefile, but in the the Excel spreadsheet Z078 appears just once and is named "Dover". Are we correct to assume that the fluoride concentrations in the two differently named parts of Z078 are the same and correspond to Z078 "Dover"?

Hope this makes sense but I understand its quite a technical question! Email addresses are automatically removed form this website but I am going to try to write it out as you would say it and see if that works: Deborah (DOT) moore (HYPHEN) 2 (AT) Manchester (DOT) ac (DOT) uk.

If what I'm asking is not clear could you contact me on my email, perhaps a quick phone call would be easier?

Many thanks in advance,
Yours sincerely,

Deborah Moore

Dear Deborah,

Thank you for your further questions for clarification. We can confirm for zones 2, 24, 45, 47, 72 and 82 these are just slightly different naming conventions but are the same zones. Zone 65 is called Ashford and Zone 86 Staines. They are correct that the fluoride concentrations in the two differently named parts of Z078 are the same and correspond to Z078 "Dover.

Kind regards
Christine
