I would like to request the following information regarding your waste management:

What contracts you currently have in place for the following seven waste streams:
1. Residual waste (e.g. black bag waste), Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR), glass, plastics, cardboard, paper and metal (tins and cans);
2. Confidential waste;
3. Food waste;
4. Batteries;
5. Fluorescent tubes;
6. Bulky waste; and
7. Furniture.

AND

Who currently provides the work for each contract?

When the above contracts are due to expire.

Dear A. Kettle,

Re: help desk request (ticket ref 2016051827000039)

Thank you for your recent request submitted under the Freedom of
Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

1. Residual waste (e.g. black bag waste), Dry Mixed Recycling (DMR),
glass, plastics, cardboard, paper and metal (tins and cans) – No contract
in place,  Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (CNES) controls all the material
collected and has access to a landfill site or MRF facilities. These sites
are owned and operated by CNES.

2. Confidential waste; - No contract in place, a confidential waste
disposal service is provided in house and also external company available
within our area.

3. Food waste; - No contract in place, CNES operates its own AD facility

4. Batteries; - No contract in place, batteries are sent off for
recycling, destination depends on material value.

5. Fluorescent tubes; - No contract in place.

6. Bulky waste; - No contract in place, CNES controls all HWRCs within the
Western Isles and processes the material at CNES owned facility.

7. Furniture. – No contract in place, furniture is sent for reuse
(locally) if suitable.

AND

Who currently provides the work for each contract? - As mentioned above,
no contracts in place. CNES operates all services in house and controls
material destination.

When the above contracts are due to expire. – N/A

If you are dissatisfied with this response you can request the Comhairle
to review this response to your request for information.  You have 40
working days from the date of receipt of this response in which to lodge
this request for review.  A request for review must be processed in
accordance with Part 1 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002,
must be in writing, describe your original request and explain why you are
dissatisfied.  An application for review should be sent to the Chief
Executive, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Council Offices, Sandwick Road,
Stornoway, Isle of Lewis HS1 2BW ([1][email address]).  A request
for review lodged with the Chief Executive must be processed promptly and
in any event within 20 working days of receipt.
 
Should you remain dissatisfied after completion of the review process you
may, within 6 months, apply to the Scottish Information Commissioner,
Kinburn Castle, Doubledykes Road, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9DS, to establish
whether your request for information has been processed in accordance with
Part 1 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.  Should you
remain dissatisfied after the conclusion of an application to the Scottish
Information Commissioner you have the right to appeal to the Court of
Session on a point of law.
