Dear South London Healthcare NHS Trust,

Please answer these questions as a matter of urgency

foi (SOUTH LONDON HEALTHCARE NHS TRUST), South London Healthcare NHS Trust

With sincere apologies for the delay in responding to your FOI request
about the number of deaths on S1 at the PRU and the number of patients
placed on the Liverpool Care Pathway.  S1 is 20 bedded ward at the PRU
which specialises in dementia, and a high proportion of patients will have
this condition on the ward. Many will be at end stage of life and not for
active resuscitation.

The Trust's response is as follows:

How many patients were admitted to ward Surgical 1 at Princess Royal
hospital site of SLHT in January 2013 how many of those admitted died and
how many put on Liverpool care path

The number of deaths on S1 in January 2013 was 9.

How many patients were admitted to ward surgical 1 at Princess Royal
hospital site SLHT in February 2013, how many of those admitted died and
how many were put onto the Liverpool care path

The number of deaths on S1 in February 2013 was 14

Regarding your questions relating to the number of patients admitted to
Surgical 1 and the number who were placed on the Liverpool Care
Pathway(LCP).  To respond to these questions the Trust would need to pull
and review each patient’s medical record to ascertain who came on to S1
and to determine if they were placed on a LCP.  This would take longer
than 18 hours to undertake and therefore exceed the fee limit as set out
under the Act.   The Trust must therefore refuse your request.

If you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been
handled you may request a review by writing to Jennie Hall, Deputy Chief
Executive Officer/Chief Nurse, South London Healthcare NHS Trust, Queen
Mary's Hospital, Frognal Avenue, Sidcup, Kent DA14 6LT, setting out your
reasons.
If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint,
you have the right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at:
