Dear Freedom Of Information,
Many thanks for the information that you sent - it is useful.
Re 2 that you could not supply as "preferences of non-resident
pupils is not held by Wandsworth as those pupils apply through
their home LA". I understand this point and am happy for the data
only to include prefs of Wandsworth LA pupils - could this be
supplied?

I have also thought of a couple of other new related requests and
will submit a new request.

It would be great if there was more Wandswoth Test info published
by Wandswoth on it's website.
Many thanks again for this data.
Yours sincerely and Happy New Year,

Mike Cluley

Dear Freedom Of Information,
Thankyou, the format is very useful BUT I think that the data is
not complete.
For instance, the data has 36 records for Franciscan school but
there were 60 Year 6 pupils in the cohort for 2010/11. Franciscan
has 2 Year 6 classes so I would expect to have received around 60
records (maybe a bit less for families moving out of the area).
Can you confirm that this data extract is complete and if it's not
issue a complete data extract.
Many thanks, Mike

Yours sincerely,

Mike Cluley

Dear James,
Thanks for this detail -but you haven't answered my query that the
numbers seemed low -can you explicitly answer this query about the
data being complete?

1-Are you confirming that of the 60 Year 6 pupils at Franciscan
only 36 went on to a Wandsworth secondary school and there is no
record of where the others went? Did the other 24 not get offered
any of their 6 preferences or did they move out of the area etc?

2-If a parent takes their children out of a Wandsworth school they
have to confirm and record where their child will be studying? If a
child takes a place in a school outside Wandswoth is this not
recorded?

PS: The "initial" working spreadsheet was closer to the requested
data than the word document as it usefully showed the destination
schools as requested.
Please supply the working format spreadsheet ongoing as it's much
more use.
Many thanks,
Mike Cluley

Freedom of Information Act request - 2012/5805 - School place preferences

I refer to your request for information received on 15/02/2012.  Please
see the information below in response to your request. For reference I
have attached the response to a previous request that is referred to
below.

1-Are you confirming that of the 60 Year 6 pupils at Franciscan only 36
went on to a Wandsworth secondary school and there is no record of where
the others went? Did the other 24 not get offered any of their 6
preferences or did they move out of the area etc?

As explained in earlier correspondence, the data is for Wandsworth
resident pupils only, as full details of preference rankings are not held
for out borough resident pupils.  Council officers have re-checked the
database and confirm that of the 60 pupils on roll in Year 6 in the
January census,  there were 36 resident pupils who were offered and
accepted a school of their originally stated preference (1-6).  Of the
other 24 pupils:

·    4 are recorded as having declined a school of their preference

·    1 did not  secure any school of their preference and was therefore
allocated an alternative school

·    2 pupils joined Franciscan after the closing date for admissions
applications and their records are therefore recorded against the schools
which they were attending at the time of their
application

·    1 late application after offer day, therefore not included in the
database

·    1 pupil with a Statement of Special Educational Needs, for whom
transfer to secondary school is dealt with under a separate process

·    1 error found in database where pupil was recorded as having left the
school in November 2010 and should have been included in preference stats
(2nd preference)

·    14 are resident in other boroughs

2-If a parent takes their children out of a Wandsworth school they have to
confirm and record where their child will be studying? If a child takes a
place in a school outside Wandswoth is this not recorded?

Parents who withdraw their child from school are expected to inform the
school of the reason. The school would inform the Local Authority which,
in the case of a resident pupil, would seek to ensure that a parent
continued to fulfil their duty to secure full-time education.  The
whereabouts of any child identified as ‘missing’ from Education are
investigated by the relevant Local Authority’s Education Welfare Service.

I hope this information meets your needs. If you do not understand the
information provided or wish to discuss anything further, please feel free
to contact me and I, or another member of the team will be able to assist
you.
