Freedom of Information Act 2000
Subject: Waiting time to be rehoused for homeless household
We write with regard to your recent enquiry for information held by the Council under
the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Request
Under the Freedom of Information Act/Environmental Information Regulations, I
would like to request the following information:
As a household who is found homeless and vulnerable due to disabilities and long-
term chronic health conditions, what is the average waiting time for such a 1-bed
homeless applicant in temporary accommodation to be rehoused?
Response
The housing register is a waiting list of people who qualify for social housing. Once
on the housing register, you can bid for properties, in accordance to your room size
on Choice Based Lettings. The average waiting time for 1 bed accommodation,
based on an average from last year, was approximately 7 years, 9 months. This
represents the average time of those people that successfully secured a property,
rather than the average time people across the housing register have been
waiting. Please note, this does exclude lets for special schemes, decants,
successions and management transfers as these are within direct offer groups.
Based on the set of circumstance you have mentioned in your request, as we
operate a banding system regardless of whether someone is living in temporary
accommodation or otherwise and have medical or disability needs, the positions on
the housing register will be determined by what band they are in. In most cases,
residents in housing need will fall into the Priority Home Seeker band and where they
are assessed with disability needs then that will determine suitable property types
that they should bid for.
Please quote the FOI reference number provided above in any future
communications.
