Dear Margaret,

Please find answers to your questions below:
As of January 2011:

1) There are 9 allotment sites managed by Cheltenham Borough Council for
which we have waiting list data. There are a further 9 sites run by
churches and parish councils which we do not have data for.

2) There are 750 plots on these 9 sites. These are not all full sized
plots. The plots are of various sizes and the number has increased due to
renovation of derelict areas and the splitting of some larger plots into
smaller ones.

3) There are approximately 700 people waiting for plots. The wait ranges
from a few months at two sites to as much as 7 years for one site in
particular which is in an area of very high demand and low turnover of
plots.

4) We keep our waiting lists open so that we can accurately gauge the
level of demand for allotments within the Borough.

5) We have not opened any new sites in 2010 but the Council has approved a
strategy which will set aside over £500,000 for the provision of new
allotments in the Borough from the proceeds of sale of a large piece of
derelict land if / when the sale goes ahead. This should enable the
creation of several hundred new allotments within the next few years.

Please contact me if you require further information.

Kind regards,

Fiona
