For your information I have set out below relevant information for the
Act.

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) allows public
authorities to decline to respond to requests for information, where it
estimates that the cost of complying with the request would exceed the
'appropriate limit'. The Freedom of Information and Data Protection
(Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulation 2004 dictate that the appropriate
limit for local authorities is £450.

Therefore if the cost of responding to an information request would exceed
£450, the public authority can legitimately decline to respond to the
request in the manner in which it was made.

The regulation prescribe that a cost of £25 per person hour should be
adopted when assessing the cost of responding to an enquiry. In addition
they specify that a public authority can take account of the costs it
reasonably expects to incur in relation to the request in:

· Determining whether it holds the information requested

· Locating such information or documents containing the
information

· Retrieving such information or documents, and

· Extracting the information from the documents containing it.

Therefore, if it would take in excess of(£450/£25) 18 hours to collate
the information necessary to respond to an enquiry, the public authority
does not have to respond to the enquiry.

Thank you for your attention in this matter
