ACS-Customer-Relations, Lambeth Borough Council

Dear Ms Campbell,

Freedom of Information 139096

Thank you for submitting a Freedom of Information request to the London
Borough of Lambeth. I am now in a position to reply. You requested the
following information regarding the `waiting lists for allotments', each
of your questions have been answered in turn

1) How many allotment sites are there in Lambeth for which the
Council has access to waiting list data?

There are two (2) small allotment sites for which Lambeth Parks &
Greenspaces has access to data. These are a) Lorn Road Allotments, off
Brixton Road, London SW9, and b) Grayscroft Road Allotments off Helmsdale
Road, Streatham SW16. These are the only two allotment sites that we own
and manage - there are over 14 allotment sites in Lambeth but we hold no
data on their occupation status or waiting lists.

Because Grayscroft Road Allotments, originally a defunct allotment site,
has recently been restored during the last quarter of 2010, as of the date
of this request it is not occupied by any plot holders. Therefore we have
to treat this as a site that has been brought into use in 2010, although
we do not expect to have allocated individuals to plots until the end of
January once final access works are completed.

2) What is the total number of plots on these sites?

Lorn Road Allotments is 0.32 hectares in size and contains 29 full
allotment plots. However, 5 of these are currently managed as `half plots'
(e.g. by two residents sharing a single plot), which in principle means 34
people have plots. The site is now fully occupied.

3) What is the total number of people on waiting lists for these
sites?

There are presently about 12 people on the waiting list for Lorn Road
Allotments.

4) Are any of these waiting lists closed to further applications?

Lorn Road is closed to any further applications. We cannot open it up to
new applicants until the present waiting list is reduced, which is what we
have been doing over successive years. Given the active site use reducing
the list further may take considerable time so we have no intention to
reopen yet.

5) How many new council allotment sites were brought into use in
2010? Please give:

a) number of new sites

One site

b) names of new sites

Grayscroft Road Allotments, Helmsdale Road, off Streatham Vale, London
SW16

c) total area of new land in hectares

Grayscroft Road Allotments is approximately 0.30 hectares in area

d) total number of new plots

Grayscroft Road Allotments has been restored to contain 23 allotment
plots, although each can be managed as `half plots' which could provide
growing space for up to 46 people. The site also contains 4 raised planter
beds to allow for small scale growing of food, and a small orchard area.
About 25 people have registered for a plot, and these will be allocated
during January 2011.

I hope that this response fully answers your questions and is helpful to
your research.
