Voter Registration - 16-17 year olds in Secure Accommodation
Dear Caerphilly County Borough Council,
Section 19 of the Senedd and Elections Act 2020 allows for persons under 18 years of age to register to vote in Senedd Elections using a declaration of local connection. This includes those being kept in any secure accommodation specified in regulations made by the Welsh Ministers in circumstances specified in the regulations (see (2B) (b)).
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 can you please provide me with the following information.
1. How many 16-17 year olds held in secure accommodation registered to vote in the 2021 Senedd Election.

Thank you for your request for information received on 18th May 2022.
As the Freedom of Information Act does not list any person appointed under
the Representation of the People Act 1983. It follows that the Electoral
Registration Officer, Returning Officer or any other person appointed
under the Act are not subject to the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act.
However, the Electoral Registration Officer is happy to reply to such
enquiries where possible. On this occasion the number of 16-17 year olds
held in secure accommodation registered to vote in the 2021 Senedd
Election is not held.
