In response:

1. The Council is not running the awards scheme but is the headline sponsor. The fee for this is £9,000.
2. The Council is not running the event so has not tendered for it.
3. . The Council supports a variety of events for tourism and communities via its tourism and events grant scheme but this is not sponsorship funding. This is the only event the Council has sponsored in this financial year.
4. There is no specific sponsorship budget within the Council.

Dear FOI Unit,

Please could you tell me who / what department was responsible for agreeing to this sponsorship?

What budget would this sponsorship come out of?

How many times in the last 12 months has the council been asked to sponsor events?

Is there a criteria for assessing whether sponsorship is value for money?

What does the council receive for the sponsorship? If tickets / hospitality, please could you provide details on how the attendees of the council will be chosen.

The individual tickets are sold at £90 each, if council works to attend, does this need to be declared somewhere?

Yours sincerely,

Fred Thomas

FOI Unit, Vale of Glamorgan Council

Dear Fred Thomas

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding VOG Business Awards that we received on the 20th of July 2022.

The information that you have requested is detailed below.

Please could you tell me who / what department was responsible for agreeing to this sponsorship?
The Operational Manager for Regeneration in consultation with the then Managing Director

What budget would this sponsorship come out of?
Regeneration budgets

How many times in the last 12 months has the council been asked to sponsor events?
The Regeneration Department has been asked to sponsor events twice within the last 12 months.

Is there a criteria for assessing whether sponsorship is value for money?
No written criteria or policy exists for assessing whether sponsorship is value for money.

What does the council receive for the sponsorship? If tickets / hospitality, please could you provide details on how the attendees of the council will be chosen.
The council considers the primary benefit to be the promotion of businesses in the Vale of Glamorgan. The council understands that a table will be provided at the event for each sponsor. It has yet to be decided who will attend on behalf of the council.

The individual tickets are sold at £90 each, if council works to attend, does this need to be declared somewhere?
If council staff attend the event representing the council on its own table it will be in a work capacity. Should any council staff attend a table hosted by a business or other nominee then all hospitality would be declared on a register should that offer be accepted or declined.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review.
