Visits to schools

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Education,

Could you please advise of the number of visits to secondary schools by Nicky Morgan since she became Secretary of State for Education.

I would like this data broken down by the OFSTED grading of the school when she visited (or if that is not possible the OFSTED grading now).

The data may be as simple as completing the form below:

Visits to secondary schools rated outstanding:
Visits to secondary schools rated Good:
Visits to secondary schools rated Requires Improvement:
Visits to secondary schools rated Inadequate:
Visits to secondary schools not yet inspected:

It would be helpful if you could advise of the start and end points of the data trawl.

Should the data be easy to collect I would like similar data for other ministers in the DfE. This additional request should be omitted if it takes the cost beyond allowable limits.

Yours faithfully,

Steve

Dear Department for Education,

I believe that this request is now overdue compared to your department standard of 20 working days. I would be grateful of an update as to progress on my request.

Dear Department for Education,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Education's handling of my FOI request 'Visits to schools'.

The initial request was submitted in September. We are now in December. The information requested is quite simple and should be easily produced. A period of time has elapsed which I believe is substantially longer than is acceptable under the act.

I have contacted the Department prompting a reply /asking for an update and did not even receive the courtesy of a reply. I expect better.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/v...

Yours faithfully,

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 22 September 2015. Your request said:

I am also responding to your email of 9 December requesting an internal review into the delay.

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I would like to apologise for the unacceptable delay in responding and I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
The Department holds some of the information you have requested. Our records show that Nicky Morgan has visited 41 secondary schools since she was appointed as Secretary of State for Education (15 July 2014) until the date of your request (22 September 2015). This figure includes all schools which have provision for 11-16 year olds, including special schools and all-through schools. However, this figure does not include schools visited in a political capacity.
The Department does not hold a record of schools visited broken down by Ofsted grade.
In the same time period and with the same definitions, Nick Gibb has visited 22 secondary schools, Sam Gyimah has visited 4 secondary schools and Lord Nash has visited 9 secondary schools. Edward Timpson and Nick Boles did not visit any secondary schools between 15 July 2014 and 22 September 2015.

Dear Department for Education,

Thank you for this information and your apology for the delay.

Given that the DfE does not hold records of the OFSTED grading of schools visited by Ministers and the Secretary of State I would be grateful if you could supply a list of the schools visited (ideally with the date of visit). I will then attach the OFSTED grades via a manual search. I hope, given the unfortunate delay on the initial request, that I could be provided with this information promptly.

If the data is available in various forms then an Excel spreadsheet would be most convenient for me.

Yours faithfully,

s wren

Following a search of our records, please find attached an Excel spreadsheet with the information you requested.
I must apologise for an error in my original response, which stated that Edward Timpson had not visited any secondary schools in the time period requested. We had mis-classified some of the data, and in reviewing for this enquiry I have updated the data, which show that he had in fact visited four secondary schools (including an all-through special school).
