Dear NHS trusts,

I would like to request the following information under the Freedom Information Act 2000:

I am investigating requests for the inspection of a person's hymen for the purpose of verifying whether they have had sexual intercourse.

1. How many people have received a hymen inspection for this purpose since 2015?
2. How many people have requested to have a hymen inspection for this purpose since 2015?

Please provide the information electronically in a spreadsheet format.

Yours faithfully,
Claire Hubble

Dear Claire Hubble

We acknowledge receipt of your email to Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS
FT:

Freedom of Information request - Virginity testing/hymen inspections

Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is committed to the
Freedom of Information Act 2000.

However, right now, like the rest of the NHS, we are facing unprecedented
challenges relating to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Understandably, our resources have been diverted to support our
front-line colleagues who are working tremendously hard to provide care
for our patients, and to those in need of our services.

We strive to be transparent and to work with an open culture.  But at this
time, whilst care of our patients and the safety of our staff takes
precedent, it is likely that responses to some requests for information
will be delayed.  We apologise for this position in advance, and will
endeavour to provide you with as much information as we can, as soon as we
are able.

The Information Commissioners Office has recognised the current situation
in the NHS.

The reference number for your email is FOI20-720.

Should you have any further inquiries concerning this matter, please reply
to this email leaving the subject line unchanged.

Yours sincerely,
Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS FT
